Our Class Assembly

Our Spring Term ended with our fabulous assembly. We showcased some of the work done over the year so far and our parents loved it!

Milestones Museum Trip

At the beginning of March children visited Milestones Museum in Basingstoke. This trip was linked to their learning of History and to further develop their knowledge of toys: past and present. Children had to complete a range of fun activities and play some old games too. They enjoyed their day very much indeed!

STEM Day

This year the theme of our STEM day was 'Flying'. Children in Chestnut class were given the challenge to make rocket balloons. They had to make the rocket reach the other side of the 'abyss' and for that they needed to test the best balloons and the best strings too. Children noticed that 'bumpy' strings were not good as they stopped the balloon mid-way. They also thought of ways of making their rocket balloons more aerodynamic by attaching wings, and for that they also needed to think of a way of attaching them without bursting the rocket. Children certainly had a lot of fun while using some good vocabulary and scientific/engineering skills.

If at first you don't succeed...

English

The term started with the children learning to write speech bubbles. Then using the book Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems, children retold the story (with some adaptations) using speech bubbles.

Maths

Children enjoy learning Maths by doing it, using a range of resources.

Science

Spring 1

The term started with the children doing a minibeast hunt around the school grounds. While doing it, children also noticed how some animals 'sleep' through the winter and how or where they do it, like snails, for example.

History

Spring 1

This term children are learning about Change and Continuity using toys what has changed and what is still the same. Children were surprised to learn that some of the toys they parents and grandparents played with are still being played with today.

RSHE

Spring 1

This term children learnt about money: where it comes from, where to keep it safe, how to save it and most importantly, how to spend it. For this, they had to also learn the difference between 'want' and 'need'.

Spring 2

This half-term children learnt what was the same or different about them. They also learnt what made them unique and which things they had in common with other children. Children also learnt about body parts and the meaning of 'private'.

Here are some of the pictures of the children's learning!

Online Safety

Spring 1

This half-term children learnt how to keep their personal information safe. That included their name, address, school, password, etc. They also learnt that the information shared online stays there for a long time.

Spring 2

Online Bullying

This half-term we learnt about online bullying. First, we recapped on what is bullying and then we used that knowledge to understand what is online bullying. We played a game where we had to stand in front of what was the right thing to do. We enjoyed the day an learnt a lot too!
