Science

Long term study

We are conducting an investigation in to our school allotments and the effect that clearing the area of plants will have on the wildlife. We will observe over the course of the year and compare an area that is left wild with an area that is cultivated. Check back throughout the year to see our observations and conclusions on the study.

Materials

In the autumn, children learnt about materials and what happened to water as it cooled or heated up. Children conducted an experiment measuring which environment ice melts the fastest in. They looked at ice inside, ice left outside and ice left inside but covered with salt. The class predicted that the ice outside would melt the fastest, however they found their predictions were not quite accurate. Children used thermometers to track the temperature that the ice had melted fully at.
