RHSE

Each half-term all year groups teach a day of RSHE. The curriculum is designed as an enquiry based model, meaning each day there is a big questions which is then broken into 5 smaller questions.

Summer Term 1

 

Throughout the day the children engaged in lessons designed to answer the question - 'What helps us grow and stay healthy?'. Activities included; sharing ideas about how we can keep our bodies healthy, using toothbrush and toothbrush to demonstrate the techniques on brushing - sharing the importance of brushing teeth twice each day, discussions about booking appointments to see the dentist and the importance of dental hygeine, discussions about rest and sleep and how much we should have each day - we also compared the hours relating to different ages, sharing ideas on activities we could do instead of watching TV/IPad/laptop/phone, sharing the importance of being safe under the sun. 

Spring Term 2

 

Throughout the day the children engaged in lessons designed to answer the question - 'What is bullying?'. Activities included; understanding the term 'bullying', how words and actions affect others - role play to act out different scenarios to discuss in depth, knowing one's consent for physical contact, talked about what they should do if consent is violated or if someone makes you feel uncomfortable, shared ideas on reporting hurtful behaviour, including online.

 

Spring Term 1

 

Throughout the day the children engaged in lessons designed to answer the question - 'What jobs do people do?'. Activities included; discussions about various jobs in our local community, increasing our understanding about jobs and earning money - why is it important, discussions about different skills and traits people need in their jobs - role play to show the various skills. 

Autumn Term 2, Elm class had the RHSE Day on 25th November 2022.

 

Throughout the day the children engaged in lessons designed to answer the question - 'What helps us to stay safe?'. Activities included; discussions about rules and how they keep us safe, role play of scenarios to understand why rules are important - what could happen if we didn't follow rules, discussions on how we could identify unsafe situations and make sure we stay safe, explaination of 'peer pressure' and what we can do to resist it.

 

Autumn Term 1, Elm class had the RHSE Day on 21st October 2022.

Throughout the day the children engaged in lessons designed to answer the question - 'What makes a good friend?'. Activities included; role play/drama to act out how we would make friends, discussion around the term 'lonely' and what does it look like, shared strategies to make ourselves feel 'less' lonely, knowing to recognise those who feel lonely, discussions around what we could do when we have arguments with each other, shared ideas about what we could do if our friends are making us unhappy.
