At Cherrywood Geography is challenging, motivating, topical and fun. In our diverse society children need, more than ever before, to understand other people and cultures. Our aim is to enhance children's physical, intellectual, social and emotional development through the teaching of Geography.
Geography promotes a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with our learners for the rest of their lives. Our geography curriculum equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, natural and human environments, combined with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. Our learners will develop a contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places, including their physical and human characteristics.
Our geography curriculum is carefully mapped to ensure that each topic builds on prior knowledge and understanding alongside developing key skills such as asking valuable questions, conducting research in an effective, efficient way. Geography is taught through topic themed units but also through strong cross curricular links. As pupils progress through school, their growing knowledge about the world helps them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes. Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the framework that explains how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
Our aim is to provide an engaging curriculum that enables our learners to leave Cherrywood Primary School with a deep geographical knowledge alongside a strong sense of their role as a global citizen.
